There is an enchanted valley between Gratteri and Gibilmanna, in the locality of Valle Nasca, above a stone chapel that the people call tribunedda. This place has always aroused the curiosity of treasure seekers, among the ispid peaks of the mountain range of Prace, in the districts that shepherds call Rocca Dinàru (Rock of Money) and Lavanca Vrilli (the Berillo valley).
People’s voices tell of shining crystals set in the rock, in the overlying part of Piano Morto. These gems – commonly called beryl – that since ancient times have made the small citadel of Gratteri famous, as Fazello wrote in the 16th century. It says: “Gratterium oppidum Berillo lapide nobile”.
In reality, it would be rather a clear and colorless rock crystal, commonly known as hyaline quartz, which in nature is found in various forms – rough stones, tips and druses – considered by the ancient peoples the stone of the seer, for its hypnotic and divinatory virtues.
Our excursion will start from that valley, to climb the highest peaks of Mount Prace, up to the gully, abisso Prace, Ciacca and Macabbubbo. After a refreshment at Piano Prato, before a breathtaking panorama, we will go back to Gratteri, not before having stopped at the Grattàra Cave, to discover the natural beauty and legends of a cave with a clear source that, according to tradition, He gave the same name to the village of Gratteri.
