The coast of Cefalù is a succession of bays, cliffs and beaches overlooking the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The whole history of Cefalù began by the sea and from the sea it evolved: it was the sea that brought the Greeks who founded it and it was the sea that decreed its fortune. To immerse yourself in its clear blue, you can choose the most beautiful and renowned beaches or the most intimate and hidden.
The beaches not to be missed
Mark these names: Kalura, Mazzaforno and Capo Plaja. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Cefalù, some postcard-perfect, the most famous and popular along with that of the Old Pier which is right in the center and the long beach that runs along the promenade. Others are frequented mainly by locals and therefore rarely stormed by tourists.
Capo Plaja is located at the western end of the municipal boundaries, about 4 kilometers from the town center. It is very long, reaches Campofelice di Roccella, joining the beach of Salinelle. The coast is very wide and alternates sand with pebbles. It has many accesses and in windy days is frequented by surfers.
Mazzaforno is about 3 kilometers from the center: it is a fascinating alternation of sand tongues and rocky coves with mixed bottom, has a little wild charm but is easy to reach. Kalura is on the opposite side and you can reach it from the center with a short walk: it’s a pebble beach that overlooks a transparent and rocky sea, with many rocks to dive from.
For those looking for tranquility, the destination is Sant’Ambrogio. This hamlet, a few kilometers from Cefalù, offers a large beach with gravel and sand frequented especially by locals and therefore always very quiet. It is not equipped but has a large parking lot.
The entire coast of Cefalù hides small sandy beaches or low stretches of cliffs to be discovered, with enchanting views to enjoy in the sea in peace.
Lidos, hotels, restaurants, terraces and resorts by the sea
The seafront of Cefalù, which extends for about one kilometre inside the town centre, overlooks a long stretch of sand (the “lido”) that is partly free and partly dotted with equipped beaches offering various services, such as beach umbrella, subeds and bar. Here you can find the most suitable corner for your own relaxation with all the comforts of the equipped beach, a short distance from the services and shops in the center.
Hotels and restaurants, many with sea-view terraces, run along the coast: a seafood lunch here is an obvious thing. The accesses are many: you start from the charming beach of the Old Pier and continue west along the coast, or you can access in different points by the stairs scattered on the seafront.
Sports on the seafront with fitness trail
The outdoor fitness area on the seafront is a news that makes Cefalù attractive also for sports lovers. Built along the beach at the corner of via Vazzana, it is equipped with facilities that allow you to practice various sports activities, from cardio to simple gymnastics, from calisthenics to cross fit.
For the sports lovers of the sea of Cefalù, there are benches, exercise bikes, jumpers, kettlebells, steps and, scanning the QR code, also special training programs.
Cefalù is green flag: safe sea for children
The green flag, the recognition that Italian pediatricians assign to the beaches most suitable for children, has been flying in Cefalù for years. The criteria for this award range from clean water and beaches to nearby amenities.
The coast along the seafront of Cefalù offers all this: the sand is fine and clear, the sea is clear and the seabed slopes gently towards the sea giving children the opportunity to play safely on the shore. The beach is equipped and all necessary services are in the immediate vicinity.
The sea in winter and autumn
The sea of Cefalù is enjoyable all year round, not only in summer. The sea, in its true essence, is once again the predominant natural element. To be admired for example through the views offered by the maze of alleys that overlook it. Or from the fascinating path on the rocks: accessible by stairs in the dock area, this path leads to Porta Giudecca, the characteristic entrance door of the historic Jewish quarter, which represents “a village in the village”. The route is made on the rocks close to the sea, to make easy the walk along the megalithic walls in a unique landscape.
Along the beaches of Cefalù, in autumn it is still possible to walk pied dans l’eau and it is not rare to find swimmers until late October. During the sunny days of the Sicilian winter, never harsh, locals love to walk on the beach to fill up with iodine and beauty. A small luxury that makes Cefalù, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, an ideal seaside destination in every season.
